New Ohio Office of First Responders established to focus on mental health needs
On November 22, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the creation of a new division within the
Department of Public Safety’s Office of Criminal Justice Services that will focus on the well-being of first
responders.
The office will focus on the behavioral health needs of law enforcement, fire fighters, EMTs,
dispatchers, corrections officers, and Ohio-based military personnel. The new office will “partner with local
and state mental health agencies, including the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services,
to offer continuing, comprehensive resources to first-responder entities across the state,” according to a
release from the governor’s office.
