The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has released the Behavioral Health Barometer, United States, Volume 4. Topics addressed in the report include substance use, serious mental illness, serious thoughts of suicide and behavioral health treatment. The report is an annual snapshot of national and state-level data about various behavioral health topics. The information is derived from SAMSHA surveys, such as the National Survey on Drug Use and Health and the National Survey of Substance Abuse and Treatment Services. Topics include youth who have experienced depression and who have used illicit drugs, thoughts about suicide, and adults who are accessing substance abuse and mental health treatment. The data also include demographic and socioeconomic indicators at the national and sub-group levels. Since the information is prepared at the national and state levels on an annual basis, readers can draw comparison over time and among states.
