White House kicks off Opioid, Heroin Awareness Week
This week, September 19-23, is Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week. As a part of this event, the White House released a fact sheet highlighting the administration’s recent efforts to combat this epidemic nationwide, including: increasing the patient limit from 100 to 275 for practitioners prescribing buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorders; expanding addiction treatment to include coverage of intensive outpatient programs and treatment of opioid use disorders with medication-assisted treatment; and supporting distance learning and telemedicine programs that expand access to behavioral health care and educational opportunities in rural communities.
