Letter to editor: Pass the Mental Health Reform Act of 2016

OPPA President, Alan Levy, MD, in a letter to the editor published by The Columbus Dispatch on Sun., Aug. 21, urges U.S. Senators to pass the Mental Health Reform Act of 2016 to help enforce an existing law that mental health be covered just like physical health.

Our nation’s mental-health system is in dire need of repair. More than 68 million Americans have experienced mental illness in the past year, which is more than 20 percent of the total population in the United States. Yet, many people with mental illness or substance-use conditions and their families are unable to access care and are constantly challenged by a fragmented mental-health delivery system.
