Medicaid delays implementation date for use of E&M and other codes until July 1, 2017

*** Revised Implementation Schedule for Behavioral Health Redesign Announced

In recognition of the time and technical assistance needed for providers and system stakeholders to thoughtfully transition to the new evaluation and management (E & M) and nursing activity code set, the Departments of Medicaid and Mental Health and Addiction Services announced today a revised implementation schedule for Behavioral Health Redesign. The coding changes, previously slated to begin Jan. 1, 2017, will now begin July 1, 2017 without a voluntary transition period. The deadline for final transition remains unchanged; all Medicaid behavioral health providers must submit claims using the new behavioral health code set effective July 1, 2017.

Please note: Jan. 1, 2017 remains the implementation date for rendering practitioners to be reported on Medicaid community behavioral health service claims. Please review the April 19 issue of MITS Bits for more information on rendering practitioner enrollment.

The Specialized Recovery Services (SRS) program implementation remains August 2016.
