President Obama signs legislation to repeal SGR formula, permanently fixing Medicare payments to physicians
On Thursday, President Obama signed legislation to repeal Medicare's sustainable growth rate. The bill not only blocked a 21% payment cut in Medicare payments that was scheduled to take effect this week, it also permanently fixes payments to physicians!
Saul Levin, MD, MPA CEO and Medical Director for the American Psychiatric Association (APA) stated "I am very pleased that APA’s advocacy efforts helped to play a role in this groundbreaking legislation, as over 1,200 of our members contacted their representatives to urge reform. We will continue to be an active participant in laying the groundwork for the significant changes that the legislation will help create in regards to physician reimbursement, particularly for the practice of psychiatry and reimbursement of psychiatric services."
